Buffalo Calf Road Woman was a young Cheyenne warrior who lived during the westward migration of settlers, miners, and soldiers in the late 1800s. Despite the challenges her people faced, she fearlessly engaged in combat to protect her community. It is not known where she gained her skills with the pistol. She gained notoriety during the Battle of the Rosebud, where she saved her brother and earned the honorific title of Brave Woman. A WEEK LATER she also fought in the Battle of Little Bighorn and defended her people during a grueling forced march and a difficult journey north. It is said that she is the one who shot and killed General Custer.

Buffalo Calf Road Woman's bravery and determination were evident throughout her life. She fought alongside her fellow warriors despite objections to a woman's participation and saved her brother's life during a battle. She also heroically defended her people during a long, dangerous journey north while carrying her own children. Her people endured extreme hardships, including the loss of their settlement and the deaths of many community members.

Despite her efforts, Buffalo Calf Road Woman did not live to see her people settle on their own territory in southeast Montana. However, her legacy as a warrior and defender of her community lives on. Her story is a reminder of the strength and resilience of indigenous peoples and the struggles they faced in the face of colonization and forced relocation.
